How do I read this syllabus?
KEY: SLV = Sur le vif textbook; CP = course packet;
Some homework is specified in advance on the syllabus. For example, on Wed. Jan. 9, you see "HW: Review present tense verbs." This means you are resonsible for doing this as homework before coming to class the following period (Friday, Jan. 11 in this case). Your instructor will also assign specific grammar and vocabulary exercises.Items in GREEN pertain to written assignments. Items in PURPLE pertain to the children's book project. Quizzes are shown in RED. Film/opera days are colored in YELLOW.
F250 FILMS/OPERA: All students are required to see the two films on or before the dates for which they are scheduled on the syllabus, and purchase tickets ($10.00) to attend the I.U. Tales of Hoffman opera on Friday, April 4. If, due to a class or work conflict, you are unable to see the films or opera at one of the scheduled times, you must let your instructor know in advance. Arrangements will be made for you to view the film in the language lab in advance. Students may attend the opera on an alternative date, but will not receive the special opening night discount ticket price in this case.
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THE EVENING SECTION. The most effective way to learn and retain a foreign language is to practice every day. Because the evening section of F250 meets only two times a week, it will be up to each student to keep up with the work outside of class, and be ready to use it in class! The amount of preparation expected for each class will also be greater, since three days' worth of work is in effect being being squeezed into two. If you struggle with foreign language, the night section may not be for you.
